My team just after the memorial ceremony at Brittany American Cemetery in France in 2011 for #MemorialDay. One of my last ceremonies as a member of the Spangdahlem Air Base (GE) Honor Guard. I was the only retiree on the team and probably the only one on a team overseas.

Over a decade ago I was a new retiree on the Spangdahlem Air Base Honor Guard performing at the memorial ceremony at Brittany American Cemetery in France. #DrillMasterHistory This team is almost in the same position as mine when our photo was taken.

We eventually found out that our team should have also included the AF departmental. Just like ❌this team should have included the Army departmental. ❌This team is not authorized to march shoulder-to-shoulder. ❌The color bearers have the wrong grip on the staff and ❌their hands are too low. ❌Green colors harnesses in blues looks bad. ❌No belts.

The color guard of TAK Composite Squadron, Buffalo, NY. ⭐Look at this team! They look good! However, ❌Wrong staffs. Only light ash wood guidon staffs with flat, silver Army spearheads are authorized. ⭐Spades are flat. ❌When formed properly, all AF/SF teams have the left guard at Left Shoulder. That requires #MarchingWithSuspendedArmSwing. ⭐Right rifle guard, excellent belt wear. ❌Left rifle guard us a fan of the John Wayne look for his belt. 👉Those are the cheapest colors harnesses available. Get the cloth Double Harness. ❌Bearer right hands and forearms should be at shoulder level.

See AFPAM 34-1203, AFI 34-1201, and AFPAM 34-1202. I know CAP has its own manuals but they either go against USAF standards or are written poorly.

I understand having a limited budget but I also understand spending money wisely on proper equipment and then training to at least meet the standard. Speaking of which, see MCO 5060.20, MCO 4400.201 Volume 13, and NTP 13B. This is the Theodore Roosevelt Division of the USNSCC.

❌No colors harnesses. That's mandatory for color bearers. ❌Only light ash wood guidon staffs with gold-colored hardware and the battle-ax finial are authorized. ❌The national ensign cannot have fringe at all for Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard color guards and displays. ❌Web belts are worn above the hip bones with a blouse/tunic on and over (not above) in the League uniform (left rifle guard.

👉The flag is not being blatantly dishonored but we have many responsibilities to uphold when in uniform and on a team.

While a color guard and a platoon/company can be considered one formation, it's actually different parts of that formation. Still, well done. The eagle finial is not authorized in this situation (see NTP 13B). It must be a battle-ax.

Is a myth. Please ensure harness sockets are level and avoid #HarnessSocketCrotchSyndrome

This joint color guard for @hawaiiairnationalguard is quite good⭐⭐⭐. ❌The different uniforms for the Soldiers is an issue. ❌Close Interval is required. ❌Harness sockets are close to the same level and none look to be higher than the US. ❌Left guard MUST be at Right Shoulder, not left, because Army techniques are followed.

Good job, team from @travismanionbattalion_usnscc. ❌However, the two-hand hold for strong wind is the left on the staff under and touching the right. ❌Wrong staffs. ❌Wrong finials. Only light ash wood guidon staffs with gold-colored hardware and the battle-ax finial are authorized. 👉The harness sockets should have been adjusted higher, but it very much appreciate them being at the same level. ❌Guards, your grips are incorrect and the rifles need to point straight back. ⭐#MarchingWithSuspendedArmSwing and doing a good job. I'm impressed with the team.

@indianacivilairpatrol, please don't just grab random flags and throw a team together just because it's a holiday. #EverythingIsWrongStartOver

❌All staffs must be light ash wood guidon staffs with flat, silver Army spearhead finial and nothing else.
❌Cords and tassels are not authorized.
❌Flags are too large for the staffs. See AFI 34-1201 for a complete explanation.
❌All flags must be as close to the same dimensions as possible and none larger than the US.
❌Military color guards can NEVER carry the POW/MIA flag. NEVER. It's a private organization's flag and is authorized to only be carried as a PC at the funeral of a former POW/MIA.
❌Color guards march and stand at Close Interval only.
❌Grips on the staffs are wrong and not uniform.
❌Guards are at Right Shoulder while bearers at Order.
❌Incorrect grips on rifles.

👉We have responsibilities as adults to ensure cadets are trained properly. Color guard members have a responsibility to ensure they are as knowledgeable as possible for their position. Leadership failure.

There's no need to gripe about the electronic bugle, I know that brass players dislike it, but it's a necessity. The training or lack thereof of this Sailor is the problem. Nothing he does is appropriate technique. Nothing. Each service has a complete training for #BugleStandingManual and anyone can take it.

Bell-up is not an authorized position. I know the insert can have the material wear away so you replace it. Facing away from the NOK is unacceptable. You either stand far enough away so that the insert cannot be seen or you point the bell parallel to the NOK. That's not a facing movement.

The team looks so good! Here's the necessary adjustments required: 👉staffs must be vertical. 👉Left hands on staffs must be under and touching the right. ❌Right rifle guard's right forearm must be horizontal. ❌Grips on the rifles must have all fingers together.

Flagstaffs should not be carried like a rifle at Port across the body, that's a guidon position used when marching at Double Time. Use #PortForColors and for very low clearance areas like a doorway, use #AnglePort.

👉It's the Naval Academy, why doesn't the color guard use the battle-ax finial? Because they carry the Marine Corps departmental and that flag, the senior of the two services, is never topped with anything other than the flat, silver Army spearhead/spade. That means all other staffs must be topped with the same finial.

As long as the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and/or Space Force flag is present, all finials must be the spade. When only the Navy and Coast Guard flags are present, the battle-ax is required.
