It's not my rule, that's the Marine Corps' rule. 3) I got that when I was sent the photo by a reader. Something about the uniform and the MCJROTC color that gave it away. That's why I used MCO 5060.20 to address the MANY faults of the team. 4) "Kids" require structure as they grow. Wearing the uniform comes with a responsibility. Before the Flag Code became public law, the flag was decoration for all kinds of events, political and otherwise. This is now forbidden by the Flag Code. Why? Because the American flag is to fly freely and not be used as mere decoration. ⚠️Please don't comment with your perceptions of the legalities or lack thereof associated with the flag. The US Code is public law. Title 4 is part of the US Code and is therefore public law. This photo is well before the Flag Code was devised. Close, but no cigar, National Naval Aviation Museu Close, but no cigar, National Naval Aviation Museum. We don't mix flagstaff finials. ❌Every is to be topped with a silver spade because the Army flag is present. ❓Why are the Army and Air Force departmental colors in the display? That doesn't make sense. The Army and AF aren't part of naval aviation. ❌The national has a gold cord and tassels. That's not authorized in the military. It looks as though EVERY flag has a gold cord and tassels. Not authorized! ℹ️The only cords and tassels that should be present are the red, white, and blue on the Nats and scarlet and yellow on the USMC. ℹ️If no one from the Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard is taking part in this retirement ceremony, then those colors should be in storage and not on stage. Then the Nats, USMC, and USN would be on stage with spade finials. All appropriate for what is taking place, if a Marine Corps aviator is also taking part, if not, then just the Nats and USN colors should be on stage and both staffs topped with the battle-ax. When the ceremony is finished, the regular display can then go back to US, USMC, USN, and USCG, all topped with spades because the USMC is present. Muscle coordination and center of balance are some Muscle coordination and center of balance are sometimes difficult to initially develop and that's why some trainees need one-on-one coaching in the principles of movement while the rest of the formation continues to work on something else or even takes a break. As a teacher, sometimes you don't get a break except to gulp down some water. The reactions to this video from all the "drill experts" out there were funny and yet disappointing. The comments showed that a handful of people think that since they were trained one way, that's the only way anyone should ever be trained. Ever! March Air Reserve Base @teammarcharb was an Air Fo March Air Reserve Base @teammarcharb was an Air Force Base many years ago where I attended an AFJROTC leadership school. Fast forward to today and the base held a military ball. Apparently, the ball was attended by Reserve (or Active Duty - National Guard) Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen. Having even one member of another service is the ONLY reason why other service colors (other than AF) would be present. If no other service member is present, that color should not be displayed. ⭐Cadets presenting the colors is nice but why aren't you forming a complete color guard? Where are your guards? ❌You MUST have a complete color guard: color bearers AND rifle guards. ❌Where is the US flag? You HAVE TO carry it. ℹ️Presenting all colors is NOT necessary. The host organization is AF and that is the ONLY service departmental color required to be formally presented. The other departmental colors can be preposted but only if at least one member of that service will be present. ⭐The sword honor cordon is too large. Eight members is maximum, including the commander, and six is usual. You find that in AFI 34-515 or the BHG manual and that is information you MUST know. You don't just throw a cordon together because it's really cool, you do it because it's a privilege to honor awardees/honorees and because of that you are to know what you are doing. ❌By the way, that's not Parade Rest for the academy sword. 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! Patrick SFB Honor Guard members for the funeral of Patrick SFB Honor Guard members for the funeral of a friend of ours. The flag is carried at the RIGHT of the urn bearer. These two did a good job, but their approach from here is flawed. They split from here when called, the urn bearer placed the urn on the wall, and the flag bearer posted for the flag fold to the left of the NOK, our pastor (the deceased's wife, also our friend, was late due to a medical issue). The flag unfold sequence went well, they gradually opened and did not pop to Tabletop. The vet group fired three volleys and sounded Taps. The vets did well. The Airmen began to fold and I grew a little frustrated with their technique as the folding progressed. The end result, however, was quite good - better than the Sailors who did the flag fold for my mother-in-law last year. Former Representative @tulsigabbard shared this ph Former Representative @tulsigabbard shared this photo of the Drill Sgt color guard at Ft Sill (OK) but not everything is "OK" with this team. ℹ️AR 840-10 states that organizational sized colors, 3'x4', can be mounted on 8' or 9'6" staffs. 👉This is why AJROTC color guards use the longer staffs and smaller colors. ℹ️It also states in paragraph 8-1 c. That flagstaffs for all flags in a display will be the same length. The wording here leads one to believe it's *only* for a display, since it says "display" and does not add the word "carried" (see the note below) for a color guard, why would a display with two different length of flagstaff be wrong and not a color guard? Honestly, the two staff lengths looks bad here, like they just had to make-do. 👉Note for the AR editors for the next edition. ℹ️Just an FYI on the size of colors. AR 840-10 states in paragraph 2-3 b. That national flags will be the same size *or larger* than other flags displayed or carried at the same time. That means the largest color that can be carried is 4'4"x5'6" and all others will either be the same size or 3'x4'. But! The TC states that the AJROTC institutional color MUST be carried with the 3'x4' US. ℹ️TC 3-21.5 states an Army color guard firms and marches at ❌Close Interval only. ❌Guards, Right Shoulder is the same for all rifle platforms. The elbow forms a 45-degree angle with forearm horizontal. What you're doing here is almost the position of Order for the new M4 series rifle, but the magazine well would be pointing forward. 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! When should an instructor step in and perform with When should an instructor step in and perform with cadets? A better question might be, when is it proper for an Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, retiree, veteran, or cadet program senior member to step into formation and perform with cadets? The answer is: Never! What makes this worse for @chwest_afjrotc is that the team and instructor are not properly trained on uniform wear and equipment techniques. ❌US lower than USAF. ❌Belts too loose. ❌Bekts worn too low over (not above) uniform belt. ❌Keepers nit spaced properly. ❌Gloves not tucked. ❌Guard left hands too high on hand guards. ❌Right rifle guard left hand under sling. ❌Guard right hands not flared. ❌Left guard right-hand fingers in front of sling. ❌MSgt USAF bearer (you "bore" the color) both hands incorrectly placed on staff. ❌Leather slings. ❌Feet inconsistent. ℹ️If you don't have enough cadets to march two colors, you can march two guards and the national with all three positions filled by CADETS. I understand why this is done, I just don't support the concept and that's based on my bias that comes from not only my training beginning with JROTC in 1979 but my childhood. My father instilled respect for my country's flag and all flags, for that matter. So, at 59, my exposure to what an American sees as prppef respect to a national flag does not include seeing it draped on the ground or any surface. One thing I'm very grateful for is that foreign national flags in commonwealth countries aren't dipped like this. That means we won't see the American flag on the ground in a salute (although done countries like Japan dip all colors). 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! The Airmen did a good job. I was impressed, which The Airmen did a good job. I was impressed, which is really difficult to do. Al was a good friend of ours from church. He told terrible jokes, one right after the other that had many laughing while others groaned. I loved not only his jokes but his stories as a Refueling Specialist. He could fly a boom better than anyone during his days in our service. For Mary Alice, his wife, who, through no fault of anyone, arrived late. Our pastor, Dr. Rowland received Al's flag, the spent casings, and the letter of condolence. When Mary Alice arrived, Dr. Rowland and I refolded the flag for her and I had the distinct privilege to present her the flag.
