Graphite is MANDATORY for all joints, the finial, Graphite is MANDATORY for all joints, the finial, middle screw joint, and all the little screws. The graphite locks the threads together and, when you need to, allows for separation. Even when you use Graphite, you should always check every screw often, depending on how often you use the staff. I'm getting the first Space Force Cadet Corps colors mounted to these new staffs. I drill a pilot hole and then insert the screws. The screws are the second line of securing the flag in place when using the sticky Velcro tabs. If you have leather tabs, after hooking the tab over the screw, wrap a 1" wide strip of plastic wrap to be the secondary method of securing. Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard mount colors so that the staff sleeve seam is on the flat side of the spade, that flat side of the spade usually faces to the rear. Marine Corps mounts on the edge and carries so that edge faces the left of the bearer. Graduates of OCC-247 marching in a pass-in-review. Graduates of OCC-247 marching in a pass-in-review. I want to convey to you how startled I was when I zoomed in on the first photo. It's as if I couldn't tell what that thing was and as I looked closer, a hideous bug jumped at my face. 1️⃣Marines, when marching, the command to salute the people on the reviewing stand is? Not Present Arms, it's... Eyes Right. And that command requires ONLY the two heads of org and left rifle to turn and the org to dip and "cut the cake". "Eyes Right" is not "Present Arms", the Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard NEVER execute Present while marching, not even as an individual out of a formation. 2️⃣Fingers should be extended and joined, right rifle. Bearers, you have some good wind there that you are battling but your hands need to be a bit higher on the staff. Right at mouth level (pinky at the chin works really well so you can talk to each other) and then Left is under and touching the right. 3️⃣Guidon bearer, that's not Parade Rest. The staff is pushed directly forward with the right arm straight. This is just FYI, since the platoon looks to be at Rest or at least At Ease. These two just executed count one of Right Face. N These two just executed count one of Right Face. Notice the trailing heel. On the left is a typical "heel flare" that many do not even realize they are performing. It's used to gain an advantage for slamming the heels together. While that is fine for exhibition drill, it's not authorized for regulation drill, including color guard. For the second count, the trail heel must be twisted around so that the foot points off 22.5 degrees as the heels strike with an emphasized "crack" on the heel strike. On the right is the more conservative and natural movement where both feet rest in this position pointing to 22.5 degrees in each direction. All that is required for the second count is to bring the trail foot forward while maintaining the angle so that the heel are brought together. Look at those harness socket at the same level! Se Look at those harness socket at the same level! See the difference in height and waistline? That's why God put different holes in the colors harness straps so you can adjust the straps to achieve this result! ℹ️Just because the national bearer is shorter is no reason for carrying the national lower than other flags. That NEVER should happen. It's a pretty bad idea to put your shortest on Nats and your tallest on the org. Colors harnesses have a limit to their adjustability and you don't want a socket on one's chest and the other at one's knees. See next slide. Just before I left Washington DC on Tuesday and ri Just before I left Washington DC on Tuesday and right after spending time with the USAF Honor Guard, I headed over to @marinebarrackswashington to visit GySgt Brandon Pizano @the_gysgt_pizano who is the Drill Master of Marine Barracks Washington and DrillMaster009. Everyone at the Barracks was spending their last day off after a long few weeks of ceremonial support for the Marine Corps birthday. But, the Drill Master was hard at work! He took a few minutes to meet with me and talk about Marine Corps standards. My view has always been from the outside for the Marine Corps and Navy so the more I can learn, the better of an understanding I can bring to my educational process for the sea services. I gave Brandon a gift that I stumbled upon on Ebay. The box he's holding is of pewter (I think) figures of the Marine Corps Color Guard. First thing this morning, after wading through tra First thing this morning, after wading through traffic that just seemed to worsen as I got closer to the base, I visited @theusafhonorguard to see DrillMaster012, CMSgt Kelly McKinley the career field manager for the Honor Guard and just happened to run into Guardian Ceremonial Guardsman Nicholas Ames! Nicholas @sir_space_cowboy is the guy most often carrying the Space Force flag in the joint color guards. The last photo is of a previously abandoned building that the AF Bodybearers took over, cleaned up, and set up as their gym and practice area. Such dedication to the craft. So good to talk with Kelly today about the future of the AF and SF Honor Guards and the intricate direction the AFSCs are going. There is light at the end of a very long tunnel that, with his hard work, will see the fullest possible realization of CMSgt Dickens' initial realignment and revamping of the program during my time while Active Duty in the 90s. @theusafhonorguard has a special contingent within @theusafhonorguard has a special contingent within the squadron that has been active since relatively shortly after the Space Force was activated. The Space Force Honor Guard is a thing! The team will mostly likely number around 60 members and function just like the @uscghonorguard with all members at least dual qualified of the three ceremonial elements (pallbearers, colors, and firing party). No funerals yet but the Guardians have performed in many ceremonies now for several years. ℹ️The first image is of the ceremonial cap crest for the SFHG Guardsmen. ℹ️The rest of the images are a first! 1️⃣: In the second photo you see the USAF HG NCO sword. The AF/SF doen't use swords because we aren't ground-based but the sword was required to match the other services at joint ceremonies. Only the AFHG uses swords (except the academy sword used by BHGs for the six-man cordon). Next to the USAF NCO sword is the USSF NCO sword! The prototype! 2️⃣, 3️⃣&4️⃣: the world is at the end of the hilt. The SF delta forms the hand guard. At the tip of the delta, right next to the world is a small "bulb" that represents a satellite. The really cool part about this team is they went for the really cool Micheal Jackson with one glove look. Awesome, right? It doesn't matter that we don't wear gloves in the utility uniform and that if someone forgets their pair then no one wears them. I say stretch the supplies out to everyone! Make sure everyone has a glove except for those two on the end, they don't need them since no one really looks at the viewer's right side of a color guard. /sarcasm Leadership needs to be readdressed immediately. The @920threscuewing at Davis-Monthan, my second b The @920threscuewing at Davis-Monthan, my second base way back when, posted this. ❌The finial on the US is not authorized IAW AFI 34-1201 (there's a new version, AFI 90-1201, but it's strangely missing. I wonder why...). The eagle is only for the President in the USAF. ❌The spearhead on the AZ flag is really nice, coming from a Greek or Roman origin, but not authorized as well. The other two finials, the spades, are the ONLY finial authorized in the USAF and Army, USMC, and USSF. ❓Who is to blame? The NCO who made the initial purchase? Protocol? Assessing blame doesn't necessarily fix the situation. While someone is to blame, what is needed is education and spending a few bucks to make the display fall within standards. ❌The American flag on the wall should only be affixed along the top edge. It's not supposed to be wallpaper. The Flag Code says the flag flies freely. ℹ️However, if this is an aircraft hangar or similar building where wind would easily catch the flag and damage it, securing it makes sense. 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! Solid brass, the presidential eagle (different from the spread eagle) is very rare and the whole system is difficult to find. Fear not! "You're The DrillMaster!" It was great to see SFC "You're The DrillMaster!" It was great to see SFC Morse (moved to joint bearers) again and meet SFC Smith and SSG Whitfield of thr Continental Color Guard while watching the first day of training for Old Guard Soldiers trying out for the @usarmy_ccg Soldiers of TOG train day after day to provide ceremonial support for the DC area just like the other service ceremonial teams. The CCG is one of those units that's special to me. With each visit I learn more. The Soldiers on colors here were learning not only flagstaff manual but the Tomb sequence. Even though it was only just a few hours into training, things were clicking for each of the trainees as they repeated the sequence again and again. Excellent leadership and followership displayed. A great start to my morning in DC! I visited the o A great start to my morning in DC! I visited the office of primary responsibility for ceremonial support for the Military District of Washington. Everything starts here and then we see it on social media and TV. Scott Little and I have been communicating for several years now through email and text and we finally met face-to-face! So good to be introduced to the key people behind the ceremonies in and around DC and talk standards and policy. Fort Lesley J. McNair is another post that is so impressive with its old, solid architecture and, of course, a parade field. My service, the USAF, has a short history and has mostly ignored it. What do we see here? The organizational is an unau What do we see here? The organizational is an unauthorized flag type. While NJROTC color guards can carry a flag that represents their unit, it must be a color and not an ensign. ℹ️Color. A flag with a staff sleeve (also called a pole hem). The flagstaff slides into the sleeve and the color has two attachment points that are either leather or hook-and-pile fastener tabs. ℹ️Ensign. A flag with a header band and grommets. This type of flag is attached to a halyard and hoisted on a mast only, never mounted to a staff. ℹ️Apparent "crossover" flag types. The Navy does have certain flags that have a staff sleeve that are not meant to be mounted to a staff, the sleeve is meant to reinforce the header end for display on a mast or staff that is outside and subject to violent winds and weather. @vanguardnjrotc 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! #MEPSFlagsAreNeverCorrect Congratulations to this #MEPSFlagsAreNeverCorrect Congratulations to this young man for his enlisting in the Marines with the help of @ssgtmichaud - neither of them are at fault for the Army screwing up the flag display because the Army runs the MEPS facilities. This is incredibly bad. I doubt it could get much worse than this. ℹ️AR 840-10 states exectly what the ❌staffs and ❌finials should be. There literally zero guess work. ❌The order of the flags is so poor it's kinda funny. ❌That's not the USAF departmental color, that's the emblem and not an authorized flag for an official display. ❓Where is the information on the colors wedge formation? It doesn't exist, but if you are going to display the flags like this then everything else should be in order. The order should be, viewer's left-to-right: US, CO, WY, USA, MC, USN, USAF, USSF, USCG. The order should be, in the wedge formation, which would be similar to having the US taller and in the center of the display: 8 USSF, 6 USN, 4 USA, 2 CO, 1 US, 3 WY, 5 USMC, 7 USAF, 9 USCG 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals!
