Sent in by Chaparral High School NJROTC for a critique! 👉Using MCO 5060.2 and MCO 10520.3, NOT the CFM... It's so nice to see ⭐Proper flagstaffs! ⭐Proper flags that appropriately have and don't have fringe! ⭐Gathered colors! ⭐Proper spacing! ⭐The battle-axes are a bonus! You need spade markers for the staffs, however. Look up that term at my website. ⭐Grounded equipment! (Against the shoes) ❌Reminder, web belts go ON the uniform belt not above. The web belts should hide the uniform belt. ❌Right rifle guard, it looks like your right hand is behind the rifle and you probably have your wrist bent in the extreme towards the front. Fingers extended and joined on the side of the rifle, fingers should angle forward and down. And your trousers need hemming. ❌Left rifle guard, fingers extended and joined on the side of the rifle, fingers are NOT wrapped around the front of the hand guard. ❌Guards, rock your rifles back so that your thumb is on the trouser leg seam. 🌟Good job! .

SEAC change of Responsibility ceremony at Conmy Hall on Ft Meyer in VA. NOW I get the new rank insignia... It took me a couple of days. 👉🔹Upper left: see that press-in by the guards? Only in ceremonial drill does a color guard march shoulder-to-shoulder. 🔹Top right: a nice shot of the joint ceremonial platoons. 🔹Bottom right hand left: Dress Center Dress is a ceremonial command that has a ceremonial element (in this case all of the NCOs and the colors) look down and find their mark or align to the right. This is not used before marching on to perform, it's used after marching on to align as stated. ❌Some cadets use this as a "cool" feature to impress a judge. 😑I'm not. 🙂

Sent in for a critique! I'm late on this one too! 👉While I've read through the YM ceremony manual, it is inadequate. I'll be using MCO 5060.2 and MCO 10520.3. These Young Marines look great, but there are a few issues. 1️⃣❌Fringe is not authorized on the national ensign for the Marine Corps (and so the Young Marines). ❌You must stand at Close Interval. ❌The harness sockets are being worn fairly high and that causes a greater angle to dip the organizational, which could be a problem if there are audience members in front of you. ❌Contributing to that greater angle is the fact that the staffs are too short for the flags. The flags look to be 4'4"x5'6 so the staffs MUST be 9'6" guidon staffs. ❌Wrong staffs and finial and missing finial. ❌Feet are inconsistent. ❌Left guard, wrap that left thumb. ❌The team should be wearing cartridge belts, as they would with the Utility uniform (cammies). Also, they should be wearing the harness made of green webbing, black lesther is not authorized for USMC. ❌The red, white, and blue cord and tassels is required for the national and the gold cord and tassels is required for the organizational.
2️⃣❌Right rifle guard, tuck that left elbow. The arm is not flared like that when waiting for the Cut command. ❓Left rifle guard, ensure your grip on the rifle looks just like the right rifle guard's. I cannot tell for sure.
3️⃣This is just posing for a picture, I know. However, when you pose with your color guard equipment, you really should all be at Order and covered. Rifle guards, you just look kinda strange standing like that. ❌Because you have these baby flagstaffs that have yet to reach maturity, you are forced to bunch up the flag material. That's wholly inappropriate.

Sent in for a critique. A week ago! I'm just getting to it using TC 3-21.5 and AR 840-10. 1️⃣ I like "action shots". This first one shows a Left flank that is being executed a bit too aggressively - left foot is only supposed to clear the marching surface. I really don't appreciate the fact that the right rifle guard must follow the second flag bearer. It looks silly, but is the Colors Reverse technique. 👉That probably why the Countermarch is a bit different. 2️⃣❌For Present, rifle guards must wrap all fingers. Do not flare that right hand, bend the fingers around the small of the stock. ⭐The team looks good. Unfortunately the Army is the only service that authorizes the smaller flags to be mounted on the taller staffs. That's what I recommend since it keeps the flag out of everyone's face at a competition. 👉Personally, I just don't understand why Close Interval must be maintained while marching, I'd like to see that changed for all services since flags block vision quite often. If you are shoulder-to-shoulder it doesn't matter, but that's only a ceremonial technique.

Eyes Right done correctly using the Army and Air Force technique! 👉First, I'll explain, then critique.🔹Army and Air Force technique requires all heads turn all the time (except the right rifle guard) and, if appropriate, the non-national flags dip. 🔹The Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard do not have the national bearer turn their head (because, technically, it's a salute and the flag and bearer do not render salute). However, when halted, the right rifle guard turns their head with the others except the national bearer. .
❌Spacing is too close. ❌Wrong staffs and finials. I know those are spades, but they are the small gold-colored type. Not authorized, but a step above the usual. #FlagstaffFinials ❌Need the CAP flag in there. ❓Dipped state flag? ⭐Harness sockets at the same level! ⭐Excellent grips on the rifles! ⭐Rifles on the outside shoulder! 🌟Good job, team! .

MSG Duty? No, it's not a chef who must add the poisonous monosodium glutamate to food. It's Marine Security Guard Duty and this is agreat post from the @msgduty account. These, Marines are in Colombia. 👉I've received several questions about the Marines having the Colombian colors around them. It happens all the time overseas and on a regular basis in the US because the President and Pentagon receive foreign dignitaries. .
A couple of things: ❌Close Interval only. ❌Both sockets must be at the same level unless it's not physically possible. It's possible here. ❌Right rifle guard, rifle forward, not out to the side. ⁠❌Finials? .

This is a good example of either: we don't have enough members from each service or we don't have anyone trained to take those positions. Honestly, this happens to the Army and USAF often. However - ❌Wrong staffs and finial with the other finial missing. ❌Cord and tassels is not authorized. ❌Right rifle guard, rifle grounded to shoe. Fingers extended and joined and pointed downward, not painfully flared to the front. At least it looks painful. ❌Should at least have the CAP flag. The TX flag can be added, but does not replace the CAP. .

Sent in by a follower! This picture might be a couple of years old. 👉"Cadet shaming". Why are pictures of cadets not following standards freely plastered all across the internet but when anyone raises their eyebrow at it, the one with the raised eyebrow is vilified? I'll tell you why. Because all of us have an ego. Some of us are able to control it, take criticism, and grow. Others are fragile (even adults) and cannot handle being told they are doing something wrong. 🔹Those fragile individuals eventually move into leadership positions and start forcing their skewed view onto everyone else even resorting to coercion. They are completely intolerant of intolerance while screaming that everyone should be tolerant. What that means is, you understand standards, you are intolerant of disrespectful colors displays such as this one pictured and therefore are the worst kind of human being. After all, #ThEyREjusTchILdreN and they are #SeRvInGTheIrCoMmuNiTy - apparently, that means standards apply to others, not to the ones in the picture. 👉Critique in the comments below.

In the US military, there are very specific #FlagstaffFinials that are authorized for each service's color guard. The eagle isn't one. 👉The first slide shows the Civil War era spear finial. It was a Confederate States of America standard. This is where today's piece of junk plastic spears come from. The spear is not authorized. At all. Ever. 👉The second slide shows what is authorized and has another Civil War era finial, the spade, which was probably used by the North before and during the "War of Northern Aggression" 🙂. ⭐When we understand our history we can learn from it. .

Sent in by a follower! This picture of a CAP color guard shows evidence of improper education and training. How can I tell? ❌Wrong equipment and techniques. If the trainers had read their manuals to understand how to approach equiping and training the cadets, there wouldn't have been any problems. 👉Education in the standards is your first step, training to those standards comes next, practicing to those standards is after that, and constantly reviewing standards and performance and revisiting training is the cycle. 👉Critique: ❌NEVER push a flagstaff forward at Parade Rest. ❌Wrong staffs and finials. I know what CAP Reg 900-2 says, but the USAF trumps CAP regs. The eagle finial is not authorized except for the president and vp. ❌Staffs are too short. ❌Right hand hold on the rifles is inconsistent and incorrect. ❌No fringe on US.
