Is it a lack of understanding? A lack of caring? I

Is it a lack of understanding? A lack of caring? Is it just a big assumption that whoever ran the protocol side of this very important ceremony already knew everything necessary thank you very much? The national is ALWAYS on the viewer's left. The state is the in the center and the USN organizational is on the right.

It's disappointing that a key factor in rendering honor and respect for our fallen was merely assumed to be correct and not checked let alone double checked.

Half-staff orders from the President are for feder

Half-staff orders from the President are for federal flagpoles. States follow suit without the Governor putting out a redundant proclamation.

You are not required to lower your personal flag on your personal flagpole.

If you only have a flagpole that is mounted on a building and does not have halyard, you attach a mourning ribbon to the top instead of lowering the flag. If your pole has a, halyard, you lower that flag to half-staff.

ℹ️If lowering your flag to exactly half-staff would have it touch something below it (the building, for instance), lower it a few inches or feet (your decision) and that will suffice. 👉The Navy has this guidance for its flags and anyone can use it as necessary. See US Navy Regulations Chapter 9 or 12 (I forget at the moment).

DO NOT fly American flags at half-staff unless: 1) a presidential order is put out or 2) it's your personal pole and you want to show mourning.

So, @asuafrotc which hand position on the org staff is correct for going to Present? Is it different when indoors and out or is there one standard? I bet there's probably one standard.

I would tell you to look in AFPAM 34-1203, but the colors section has been wrong for decades. The OPR years ago needed a bullet for an EPR and changed the hand for holding at Carry to the left. It started with just screwing up the text and then an edition later we had the photos changed to double down on being wrong.

We hold with the right at shoulder level for regulation drill and if you want to follow the BHG manual, the right hand belongs at mouth level on the staff.

The second photo shows all the ASU ROTC units manning a backwards color guard. I have gotten mixed up but had those around me to push me into the right place. Pay attention everyone!

Cadets of @afrotc157 @afrotc_det157 would you be able to LOGICALLY explain this POW/MIA table set up to anyone?

Would you be able to explain why you have 5 service hats and only one chair?. Could you explain why the chair is tilted against the table?

Would you be able to reference the League of Families written guidelines for the table and ceremony? Probably not. Because it talks about placesettings (anywhere from 1 to 6), not tilted chairs against a table.

Chairs are cumbersome at best when resting on all four legs, they only get in the way. They become an immediate hazard and look as though 6-year olds set them up when positioned as shown.

ℹ️Understanding and applying the standards taught to you is going to communicate much better than just knowing. Understand the why behind the actions.

⭐The team looks good! ⭐Good hat carry technique. ⭐The table looks good except for the chair.

Hurlburt BHG, what is this? First, ❌the harness sockets could have EASILY been adjusted to the same level. Instead, you chose to have the AF bearer to have #HarnessSocketCrotchSyndrome which is not a good look. ❌Next, you left your left hands on the staffs at the sockets. That's the first wind bracing technique that might have been necessary but you both just have your hand "there". What is that grip? It's nothing, that's what it is. The left thumb is to be wrapped around the staff, not in front of it.

Guards look good except for their right hands. ℹ️Wrap on colors (traditional), flare on #FiringParty is the rule. ⭐Good spacing. ℹ️You need spade markers to ensure the spades are always flat.

Being hosted by the @usarmyoldguard last Monday was a great treat. I was able to watch the first rehearsal for the Concord and Lexington 250th anniversary performance. This is the result that look place Saturday.

It was interesting to see the on-the-fly design of the Supersquad (the Soldiers in the different era uniforms) members passing the Lexington battle streamer to have the Commanding General of the Massachusetts National Guard remount it on the US Army Ceremonial Color in honor of the anniversary.

You have to use REGULATION DRILL standards from AFPAM 34-1203, TC 3-21.5, and MCO 5060.20. You CANNOT use ceremonial technique or mix techniques. Here is how you do it!

❌Everyone needs chin straps down. You all know that! ⭐Lead guard, excellent job. Hand and rifle placement. ⭐Nice job, Nats bearer. ❌Bearer right hands not cranked. ❌Where are everyone's ceremonial belts?

⭐8' staffs. ❌3'x5' colors. The colors the Army, AF/SF carry are either 3'x4' (on 8') or 4'4"x5'6".

👉While technically both service NG org colors should be carried, it's just not always legistically possible. Plus, if the national alone is good for federal troops, the national and state would also fall into that category of minimum equipment and personnel.

❌State bearer, right hand too low. ❌Left hand too high. ❌Left-hand fingers not together. ❌Your harness socket and frame are to be silver, not gold colored.

❌Trail guard, rifle too low. ❌Right-hand fingers not together. ❌Ceremonial cap too far back on the head. ❌Silver chin strap possibly not grounded to bill.

This, drill and ceremonies, is the reason why General Washington brought Baron von Steuben to train the Continental Army. Everything written during that time about the Barron's training of our men focused on the need for his training and the exceptionally positive results.

Are you finished? Because your comments show how unbelievably ignorant you are about how D&C directly applied and now indirectly applies to everything we do in the US military.

Our forces have been cut by massive chunks since 1990 and every service except the Marine Corps has let standards drop like a hot potato. We don't have enough people to do the jobs that we used to even while I was active duty.

You can see it everywhere and now leadership has relegated D&C to be thrown on the scrap heap (redesignating D&C manuals as no better than the sticky note on your computer monitor) because they purposefully want failure.

It's by design because people cannot be this consistently stupid (atrocious decisions made in Congress and the top echelons of each branch). Marxism has destroyed our services as we can see all around us.

I'm glad to see DrillAmerica 1903s instead of an M16 or M4, except for the ❌sling being threaded through the #StackingSwivel and ❌both guards holding them incorrectly (sling-out) and ❌the left guard being at Left Shoulder. ❌No real care was given to harness socket adjustment it seems. ❌Hands are "wherever" on the staffs. The colors section of TC 3-21.5 and its 1903 annex are appropriate reading before setting out again to present the colors. ℹ️Lastly, the Army Field Flag has strict requirements. Be sure to read AR 840-10 about who can carry it.

Iron Mike guards the entrance to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum and yet again I am so very impressed with my brothers and sisters in my sister service.

I know of Iron Mike, what is the statue that has the Soldier waving on the troops behind him with the motto "Follow me"?

I have no ties to the Army except going through Basic Camp (initial officer training) at Fort Knox in 1983 and then two years at New Mexico Military Institute. I only know of certain Army ways, I never lived them but this seemed to bring me closer - I definitely have a high level of appreciation for Soldiers and it grows seeing this.

One thing is for sure, we have a different world today with different and better technology but the values and standards highlighted in the museums are absolutely necessary every single day. Weve let them slip.

🧐Color was furled by the leadership literally rolling up the color by twisting the staff instead of the color bearer doing it and leadership ensuring the color is not wrinkled during the process.

⭐Color cased. It was awkwardly brought back to Carry but the bearer did OK.

❌Uh, where are you going? Why are you leaving the formation? That's not correct. Stay there, you don't leave on your own. The formation has to be dismissed or given Fall Out and that's for the whole formation.

🔔TC 3-21.5, paragraph 10-42, bullet three states "The CSM hands the cased organizational Color to a designated Soldier who marches from the
field and the CSM returns to their post. The Color bearer of the deactivated unit marches with the
Color guard for the remainder of the ceremony with an empty sling. Procedures from this point
forward are the same as for change-of-command ceremonies."

👉The color bearer doesn't leave the formation another Soldier carries it off.

I was recently told that the #exhibitiondrill movements I teach are "old". I know! They were "old" when I learned them in 1979 as freshman in high school.

I don't mind that feedback at all and I understand it well. Why do I tech "old" drill moves?

1️⃣Because they are the fundamental moves from which the first routines were developed in the 1950s. It's amazing that military exhibition drill is only a little older than me.

2️⃣Because every year thousands of cadets are introduced to exhibition drill for the first time and it's easiest to help them understand fundamentals and move forward from there.

3️⃣Because writing exhibition drill can be difficult at first and starting with fundamental movement is the most effective teacher.

4️⃣Because these moves are the basics of "military flavor" in exhibition drill and using these moves helps develop that undefinable quality. These are the basis of "I know what 'military flavor' looks like but it's difficult to describe."

I was recently told that I should take a team and

I was recently told that I should take a team and work with them and go all the way to win a national competition. It wasn't a coercive demand but a suggestion. I appreciate it but I have way too much to do right now.

Everyone needs training in the basics. Newbies obviously need it and so does everyone else whether they received proper initial training or not. A refresher is always good and a course correction (learning to do things the correct way) is also good.

I've had several teams go to and win at the national level. What's more rewarding is to receive messages from cadets who have never placed at local competitions write and tell me that they just placed higher or even won for the first time.

Soloists, tandems, teams - whatever you are doing, you can always improve in regulation or exhibition drill and I'm here for that. I have more books to write, videos to record, and online training to produce (wait until you see what's coming!).

If you never compete, I'll be happy with knowing that you learned.
