The Buddy Bond Color Guard were honored to bring in colors for the Kansas City Chiefs. They looked keen and represented very well. From Facebook.

Each service gas a location or more for Basic Trai

Each service gas a location or more for Basic Training or Boot Camp. There are certain ways that each service handles graduations. For the Navy, it's a grandiose spectacle (in a good way!) that makes the ceremony all that much more special. However.

@rtcgreatlakes has some big protocol issues that need to be fixed. Now, I've been posting about certain problems throughout the DoD for many years. I've been able to raise awareness and highlight problems thst gave been fixed. I truly appreciate being a catalyst for positive change in adherence to published standards. It's humbling.

Even though RTC Great Lakes has taken care of a couple of issues in the last year (thank you), there are many more that need to be addressed and fixed right away. Please read this week's article about making RTC Great Lakes Great Again.

The @usnceremonialguard colors supported a ceremony for CNO as she had a visit from her equivalent from Turkey.

Here's one of my education stories. I posted something similar about 4 or so years ago and talked about how the foreign national needs its own color guard. I was going on the idea that this setup with a foreign national in the color guard proper was wrong. A ceremonial guardsman from the Navy team pointed out to me that the text in MCO 5060.20 states that the foreign national can be carried in the main color guard, it's just not usual, but nothing wrong with it. I truly appreciated his comment and wrote at the time "how many times have I read that text and that one sentence never clicked!?" It did then and it was a great lesson.

Want another? My DrillMaster Study on Sea Service Flags, published a month ago at my website, brought out the fact that ONLY the Marine Corps forbids fringe on the national. Everyone else must have it.

Last one. Just the other day I learned that an Army colors display and color guard may have an American flag that is larger than the others. How many times have I read that text and it not clicked!?

There's ALWAYS something to learn.

Random graffiti in my hotel. I like the message, just not the method. Be the change that you want to see. Others may attack you, turn that garbage into fuel! It can be difficult at first, but stay the course! In WWII bomber pilots had a saying, you know you're over the target when you get the most flak. That flak comes from people who are insecure in who they are and/or what they are doing and it can run deeper and be more complex, but as long as you try to be as professional as possible, you have nothing to fear (but fear itself). Thus ends the Henry Blake Cliché festival (a character in the TV series M*A*S*H)

Never EVER carry a color over your shoulder like this. AFPAM 34-1203 shows certain positions and if you need more, and you do, then you go to TC 3-21.5 and MCO 5060.20 to read what other positions are authorized. Trail Colors would fit this situation well.

👉With my decades of ceremonial drill training and performance I find it very frustrating that all three D&C manuals have not been updated to include Port (similar to Trail with both hands on staff) and Angle Port (this position is described in the MCO for getting through a doorway, but is not specifically named).

2) Female blouses WILL BE tucked in on colors. It's not my rule, that's the Marine Corps' rule.

3) I got that when I was sent the photo by a reader. Something about the uniform and the MCJROTC color that gave it away. That's why I used MCO 5060.20 to address the MANY faults of the team.

4) "Kids" require structure as they grow. Wearing the uniform comes with a responsibility. We don't get to pick and choose what standards we are to follow and the ones we don't.

5) My daughter will take me in when the time comes, but thanks for your gracious suggestion. It's unfortunate that you think this is directed at the cadets. It's directed to YOU, adult.

Team @ghsmcjrotc ❌the POW/MIA flag is not authorized to be carried except as the personal color at the funeral of a former POW and never in the colors formation. ❌The Marine Corps does not authorize the addition of state colors in the formation. ❌The whole team needs to wear white web belts. ❌Females must tuck in their blouse on colors. There's a letter from MCJROTC on my Resources page that explains this. ❌Your slings are through the stacking swivel. ❌Feet must be separated at the heels 12" when at Parade Rest.

You are reading the title of my latest video on YouTube correctly, Missing Left Hand Manual of Arms using the M1 Garand.

I received a request from a cadet to help him manipulate a rifle for color guard but there's a catch, he is missing his left hand. This is the manual of arms I developed for him and anyone else in his situation.

⭐⭐The awesome thing about cadet programs is that even if you have a disability, you can still join and participate as much as you can.

Another historical photo of of the flag anchored to a ceiling. Before the Flag Code became public law, the flag was decoration for all kinds of events, political and otherwise.

This is now forbidden by the Flag Code. Why? Because the American flag is to fly freely and not be used as mere decoration.

⚠️Please don't comment with your perceptions of the legalities or lack thereof associated with the flag. The US Code is public law. Title 4 is part of the US Code and is therefore public law. Just because the SCOTUS moronically decided that flag desecration is free speech does not automatically make the Flag Code null and void.

I'm not sure who this man is but look at the flag here. This is the definition of "festooned", which is forbidden by the Flag Code. This photo is well before the Flag Code was devised. The Code came about after WWII from the Army and Navy regulations of the time specifically for civilian Americans, those not in the military.

Close, but no cigar, National Naval Aviation Museum. We don't mix flagstaff finials. ❌Every is to be topped with a silver spade because the Army flag is present.

❓Why are the Army and Air Force departmental colors in the display? That doesn't make sense. The Army and AF aren't part of naval aviation.

❌The national has a gold cord and tassels. That's not authorized in the military. It looks as though EVERY flag has a gold cord and tassels. Not authorized! ℹ️The only cords and tassels that should be present are the red, white, and blue on the Nats and scarlet and yellow on the USMC.

ℹ️If no one from the Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard is taking part in this retirement ceremony, then those colors should be in storage and not on stage. Then the Nats, USMC, and USN would be on stage with spade finials. All appropriate for what is taking place, if a Marine Corps aviator is also taking part, if not, then just the Nats and USN colors should be on stage and both staffs topped with the battle-ax.

When the ceremony is finished, the regular display can then go back to US, USMC, USN, and USCG, all topped with spades because the USMC is present. There's no reason for the other service colors to be displayed on a regular basis.

Muscle coordination and center of balance are sometimes difficult to initially develop and that's why some trainees need one-on-one coaching in the principles of movement while the rest of the formation continues to work on something else or even takes a break. As a teacher, sometimes you don't get a break except to gulp down some water.

The reactions to this video from all the "drill experts" out there were funny and yet disappointing. The comments showed that a handful of people think that since they were trained one way, that's the only way anyone should ever be trained. Ever! That just shows very shallow knowledge and deep arrogance.

March Air Reserve Base @teammarcharb was an Air Force Base many years ago where I attended an AFJROTC leadership school. Fast forward to today and the base held a military ball.

Apparently, the ball was attended by Reserve (or Active Duty - National Guard) Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen. Having even one member of another service is the ONLY reason why other service colors (other than AF) would be present. If no other service member is present, that color should not be displayed.

⭐Cadets presenting the colors is nice but why aren't you forming a complete color guard? Where are your guards? ❌You MUST have a complete color guard: color bearers AND rifle guards. ❌Where is the US flag? You HAVE TO carry it. ℹ️Presenting all colors is NOT necessary. The host organization is AF and that is the ONLY service departmental color required to be formally presented. The other departmental colors can be preposted but only if at least one member of that service will be present.

⭐The sword honor cordon is too large. Eight members is maximum, including the commander, and six is usual. You find that in AFI 34-515 or the BHG manual and that is information you MUST know. You don't just throw a cordon together because it's really cool, you do it because it's a privilege to honor awardees/honorees and because of that you are to know what you are doing. ❌By the way, that's not Parade Rest for the academy sword.
