Notice the national bearer has his left hand at the harness socket. That's a ceremonial technique for high winds. In this case however, what most likely happened is that the team went to Present from Order and that leaves the subdued command "Bearers, Ready, Two (or Cut)" to be given. There are certain times when that command cannot be given (the anthem starts, dignitaries right in front of you) and the left hand remains. Now, if your team has worked out the timing of dropping the left without command after the three-second dip, that's great.

I was told years ago by a high school student who already knew everything he needed to know. That statement is what you get from being taught a certain "standard" and creating some of your own. 🇺🇸 Flying the flag upside down means that someone is in danger. It's a call for help and perfectly acceptable as a means of communication per the Flag Code. 👉Why was this done here? One of two reasons: 1️⃣Whoever raised it doesn't care, "At least the thing is up" or, 2️⃣Well meaning people did this on purpose to indicate that our country is in grave danger of being taken over from the inside by communist operatives. 👉I'm going with 2️⃣ because that is our situation and has been since the 90s. Remember, knee-jerk reactions don't help, we need to understand the context of a photo.

Sent in by a follower! This is the Utah NG presenting and posting (why? No need, #ShowNGoPresentation would have fit perfectly) for the governor's inauguration. UTNG, there's so much wrong with this that it's very disappointing to post. 1️⃣👉Spacing is a bit off with the lead guard. That's on you NCOIC. ❌Left guard should be Army, UT should be AF. ❌Extra step in the #ColorsTurnOn and no step-slide. ❌I give up on the required flags. I guess not having the departmental or organizational flags is fine. 🤷‍♂️❌Color bearers, you didn't #ColorsRoll before the ceremony so the flags are in your faces and ❌the UT bearer is holding the flag to the staff with his pinky! ❌Guards you both should be at Right Shoulder. Joint service. Army's standard takes precedence. 2️⃣❌Colors harness sockets are not at the same level. No reason for that at all. ❌Guards need to tuck their outside elbows. ❌NCOIC, C-fist goes against the trouser leg. ⭐Spacing is good. 3️⃣❌Slings are mounted through the #StackingSwivel ❌Guards, all 4 hands are wrong. ❌US, your wrist is cranked, but UT extended his wrist? That means the UT finial rotated. 4️⃣❌NCOIC gives Port after the anthem and Pledge (❌we do not use both!) and both color bearers stay at Right Shoulder? Is this ignore Commands Tuesday? You post at Port in this situation. 5️⃣❌You don't salute the flags again after posting. You've already rendered honors. 6️⃣❌Left hands, guards! Where do they go? Certainly not that high. 7️⃣❌The lead/right rifle guard ALWAYS leads! This is an #EveryLeftOff situation, team! ❌Bad planning, training, and protocol not followed.

GIMP master? No, but more comfortable with it. So many physical changes with me that I'm resorting to manipulating a couple of photos from last year to make up for a couple that I missed. Online training is coming soon! 👉Rib is healing really well! Everything else is almost completely healed. 👉We will never go back to "normal" but we can all make the best of the situation. What can we learn from in this photo? ❌Spacing between the two elements is too close. ❌Commander is too close, must be three steps away from first element. ❌Guidon bearer's grip is (great but) incorrect. Every service needs to use the Strong Grip! It's ridiculous to carry with the "V" Grip. ❌Sone really bad arm swing. ❌No one at the front here is marching with a proper Walking Base. They are almost walking a tightrope. #MakeMarchingGreatAgain and march properly. ⭐Good timing!

I judged a great JROTC competition a couple of years ago just outside of Los Angeles. Of course, I judged colors. I told a MCJROTC team that they were executing many techniques incorrectly (following the C4 of MBW going shoulder-to-shoulder), one being they were not authorized to perform a Wheel movement. The instructor listened intently later telling me that my explanation was a stretch. No, it's per the manual. The Marine Corps Turn is a movement that rotates the team to either flank with the rotation point being either guard. It's the Army's Wheel. A Marine Corps Wheel is ONLY performed by a joint service team, two or more services, with the rotation point at the center of the team (a person if the team is odd numbered or in between two people if even numbered). 👉That's for regulation drill. For ceremonial drill, all rotation points are at the center of the team, which makes it much easier to judge distances.

I really wish the standard for Eyes Right for the sword was to keep it still for all the services. Army and Air Force swing the arm; it looks bad and is quite difficult to master. This is just a short sequence to admire with great satisfaction. Except for the right arm swing of the Marine at the far left. He has a SLIGHT inward curve on the fore swing. Still, the formation is superb.

This is a recent photo from San Diego. The mayor is behind the podium. See how the #FlagSpreaders (banned by the USAF & USSF but unfortunately encouraged by the Army) are much, much too wide and too low? Plus, the staffs look to be only 7' tall. This is how to look awful on camera. I'll post more on flag spreaders and how they are a scourge on society. Well, maybe not a scourge, but not attractive most of the time. Look at the photos taken at the swearing-in ceremony at a MEPS and you'll see the worst display of oddly-sized flags dragging the floor with spreaders that stretch the flags to their ultimate.

Flaring both hands like this and extending both arms is not a good or secure look. You want the top of the axe head at chin level with the pick right in front of the chin. The left hand wraps around the handle about 4" below the bottom of the head. The right is flared at approximately a 45-degree angle with the thumb tucked behind the handle at the belly.

I was asked about a critique for the two recent ph

I was asked about a critique for the two recent photos I posted. ⭐The team LOOKS great. Chin straps down and matching gear. Nice. Before I continue, I must mention where we get our standards: the Flag Code is our foundation. From there we must turn to the Army (mostly) or the Marine Corps. Why the military? Because first responders are in a military type of uniform. ❌Wrong staffs and finials. Light ash wood guidon staffs with the flat, silver Army Spearhead only. The spread eagle is for the Pres. Although, if you wanted to change the US finial to a cone like the others, that would be great step in the right direction. ❌No gold cords and tassels for flags for color guards, ever. Red, white, and blue for the US. State flags do not have cord requirements unless the state AG has codified it. These should be removed. ❌Left hand on the staff is not a thing. Left hand at the socket 100% of the time is an Army regulation drill thing. Left hand at the socket for ceremonial drill is only for high winds. ⭐Fringe on all the flags is a great standard. The Flag Code forbids anything attached and the Marine Corps considers fringe a thing attached. When fringe was first attached to flags hundreds of years ago, the fibers created static that attracted the dirt from the flag keeping it clean. ⭐Very good spacing! ❌The slings are threaded through the #StackingSwivel - that's incorrect. ❌At Present, the left hand grasps the hand guard AND sling. Do not place the left under the sling. ❌The "extra" member is here, why? His chin strap is down so he is connected to the team and not just an honor guard member or the commander for the ceremony. If he is the commander for the color guard, this is a bad thing. For some reason the Army's technique of having the SGM outside of the team centered at the rear and giving commands (which I do not appreciate in the least), which is ONLY for a dining-in situation, is abused constantly for all kinds of ceremonies by those who have not read the manual. So, if he's giving commands to the team, you need to reevaluate your structure. The US bearer is the one to give commands in all ceremonies.
