Full joint service requires certain placement and

Full joint service requires certain placement and so does partial. Partial should never be looked as "Hey it would look really nice if we did 1-2-1-2, or even 1-2-3-1-2-3" meaning the difference in two or three services together, respectively. It doesn't work that way. One service present is senior, the next junior and this is how that is set up.

I dislike runs with flags, guidons, sure, but flags aren't my cup of tea (Earl Grey, please). However, that's just my preference. However again, that preference is based on flagstaffs only being authorized in a color guard and, by extension, battalion and PC bearers. So, there's reason to not carry flags on runs. And then we get to the POW here. It's not carried in any formation because it's not an official government flag. It's a private organization's flag and therefore I'm the class of a novelty flag. I don't write this to be indulging, I wrote it to educate.

The POW/MIA flag is only, ONLY, *ONLY* carried as the personal color at the funeral of a former POW/MIA. That's it. Never any other time. Ever. AFI 34-1201 states it "is not paraded". That has nothing to do with what you may think: a street parade or military parade, "paraded" means you pick it up and move a step with it for any reason other than as a PC.

As much as you might not like it, there is no argument for carrying it at any other time. "But, POW/MIA Day" is not a reason or excuse.

The @ussocom joint color guard includes the command flag quite frequently, but it's not authorized.

After my tour of the country finishes towards the middle of November, I'll get back to work on my joint service manual. It's going to contain everything joint teams, full or partial, need. Plus, a deed, just in case, info.

Whats us aggravating is the NJROTC puts out a cadet manual that doesn't follow the service standards for D&C, MCO 5060.20. ❌Aluminum staffs are not authorized, but the cadet manual says OK. ❌The NJROTC org must have fringe, but it's sold without and, if I remember correctly, the manual says no problem. I don't appreciate cadets being told one thing and then joining the Navy (for instance) and finding out those "standards" were wrong. Why do that HQ NJROTC? Let's move on.

⭐Harness sockets at the same level. ⭐Spacing fairly consistent. ⭐Left guard's hand correct. ❌Right guard's left hand too high on the hand guard and right hand needs work: you have an almost right angle to your wrist and it should be almost neutral. Thumb must be tucked behind the small of the stock. ❌Right Guard wearing a watch. It's best not to. ❌National bearer's belt. Why isn't the buckle centered? Was there an issue that created the need to have it off-center? ❌Bearers wearing ribbons. Again, it's best not to because the harness straps can screw them up. ⭐Slings mounted correctly. ⭐Battle-ax finials. ⭐Feet consistent. ⭐Web belts worn correctly.

Dress Center Dress is used for every ceremonial element and other formations like the #HonorCordon.

Some AFJROTC color guards use this to try to impress the judges. Don't. It's used for staying in place for a ceremony, not lining up the team before you move out.

Last week we practiced the Urn Sequence. Usually, the urn and folded flag travel in the back seat of a sedan. Sometimes however, they will be at the back of a coach resting on the casket deck. They travel with the flag on the right. When the bearers retrieve them and move to the rear of the vehicle, they must switch places to have the flag on the right.

#ManualOfTheBugle - This is the electronic insert for a bugle. This is an older version, but not the version where you had to cycle through every call after testing it on Taps. If you didn't cycle through, you'd sound Reveille or whatever the next call was.

This model doesn't require cycling through, you just pick the number you need and hit Play. The tape is to block out the little indicator light and stop another button from being pressed.

Don't know where the color guard is from. This is not good. However, let's see some things that are correct before getting into whats needs to be corrected.

⭐Flags in proper order. ⭐Spacing is consistent.

Now:
❌Fringe on the national. ❌National carried lower. ❌Left hands on the staffs. ❌Bearers elbows flared. ❌No slings on the rifles. ❌Guards have both hands flared at Present. Where does this silly left hand flare come from? I've seen it on rifles and fire axes.

❌The team is required to march and stand at Close Interval only. ❌Left hands do not belong on the staff at the socket, but at your sides. If there is strong wind, the left hand is brought to the staff at the socket and then slid up to under and touching the right. A subdued "Bearers Ready, Two" is the command to do that. ❌Mirrored anything by the guards is not authorized.

I know that a vast majority of people do not know that #PresentArmsAtOrder is a proper technique, but it is. I what situation is it appropriate? Here, the members of the Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard go through the short ceremony of rendering honors to the flag while the guards properly pass on the flagstaffs to the color bearers.

The colors harness would be inappropriate for the guards to wear and the same goes for the bearers. This ceremony is the only way to appropriately create the color guard. After this the guards mounted their rides and drew their swords.

A couple of notes. Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard color guards are not authorized to carry the state flag. You should be carrying either the USN departmental or NJROTC organizational. However, some school officials request that the state flag be carried at school functions and that's understandable.

That being said. All flags that are carried by these services and cadet organizations must have fringe except for the national.

Staffs should have the battle-ax finial and all metal then has to be gold-colored. Staffs with the spade and silver-colored metal are for joint work with the other services except the Coast Guard.

The smallest class I've ever taught graduated today as Certified US Ceremonial Guardsmen. The planning began with 20 a couple of months ago and life happened. That's OK, we pushed through. What's interesting is this is a first for class size and it was a first as all six performed all three ceremonial elements one right after the other. That's tough to do! You spend the week learning them, but then you can concentrate on just one for the course final, the mock full honors funeral. They did it with a few minor mistakes. Well done, gentleman!
