The @usmcdrumcorps played at the fbi building recently and this was the display the FBI threw together. ❌No finials. ❌The wrong finial on the US. ❌Space Force goes before Coast Guard because the Coasties are not DoD. If you are going to display military colors, you follow military rules for their display, you don't just put together whatever you want and call it "honoring our veterans".

What do we see here? The organizational is an unauthorized flag type. While NJROTC color guards can carry a flag that represents their unit, it must be a color and not an ensign.

ℹ️Color. A flag with a staff sleeve (also called a pole hem). The flagstaff slides into the sleeve and the color has two attachment points that are either leather or hook-and-pile fastener tabs.

ℹ️Ensign. A flag with a header band and grommets. This type of flag is attached to a halyard and hoisted on a mast only, never mounted to a staff.

ℹ️Apparent "crossover" flag types. The Navy does have certain flags that have a staff sleeve that are not meant to be mounted to a staff, the sleeve is meant to reinforce the header end for display on a mast or staff that is outside and subject to violent winds and weather.

Congratulations to this young man for his enlisting in the Marines with the help of @ssgtmichaud - neither of them are at fault for the Army screwing up the flag display because the Army runs the MEPS facilities.

This is incredibly bad. I doubt it could get much worse than this. ℹ️AR 840-10 states exectly what the ❌staffs and ❌finials should be. There literally zero guess work. ❌The order of the flags is so poor it's kinda funny. ❌That's not the USAF departmental color, that's the emblem and not an authorized flag for an official display. ❓Where is the information on the colors wedge formation? It doesn't exist, but if you are going to display the flags like this then everything else should be in order.

The order should be, viewer's left-to-right:

US, CO, WY, USA, MC, USN, USAF, USSF, USCG.

The order should be, in the wedge formation, which would be similar to having the US taller and in the center of the display:

8 USSF, 6 USN, 4 USA, 2 CO, 1 US, 3 WY, 5 USMC, 7 USAF, 9 USCG

Dr. Chris Manning and I worked together on the Spa

Dr. Chris Manning and I worked together on the Spangdahlem Air Base Honor Guard (2009) after he did a stint on the Air Force Honor Guard. We had a few months of working together and kept in touch through the years. He has brought me to his school twice for me to work with the students who are also CAP cadets.

He is going back to graduate school for a psychology degree this time because the children of his school, of which he is dean, need his help. Many students, in his words, are in a "trauma loop". I witnessed the result in many of the students. It's tough. I my work at the school I was able to see a small dent in the wall many put up. That dent came about by gentle enforcement of standards and a smile and praise as students began to master standing at Attention, facing right, left, and about, and rendering a hand salute. Little steps.

Chirs and his staff are a great group of people who are sacrificing daily to help the approximately 180 students of Buffalo Creek Academy Charter School. Tens of thousands need the school but let's start here. I relish the privilege to join with them to be one of the stones of the foundation.

The only way this works is the team is backwards thinking they will face to the right.

This was posted by a flag company. But if I point anything out to them, they get angry. Why is that? Because everyone loves to virtue signal and not really care if it's accurate as long as everyone starts chanting the idiotic "thuport our troopth!"

Veteran groups and organizations that support vet groups do the same thing.

Many don't care about accuracy, they just want a full heart for "supporting" and getting on with their day since that required rask is complete.

❌Metal staffs. ❌Wrong finials, the eagle is not authorized. ❌The CA is an outside flag that is only for attaching to a halyard and hoisting up an outside pole because of the header band and grommets. It is not authorized to be attached to a flagstaff for a color guard. Colors, flags made for a static indoor display and carrying by a color bearer, have a staff sleeve ❌and are required to have fringe. ❌Belt keepers are to be 1" from the buckle. ❌Chin straps on the chin, not the throat.

👉Why are you using ceremonial manual? Are you authorized to perform ceremonial techniques? I prefer them, they are much more complete, by a long shot, but you need to make sure. Since you decided to use ceremonial:

❌All left thumbs make a "cinnamon role" yare not tucked. ❌Right hands on the staffs must use the Marine Corps' Strong Grip with index finger pointing down the staff. ❌Colors must be tucked under the right arm at Attention and Parade Rest. ❌Ribbons are removed for bearers. ❌Left hands are at the left side.

Guards. ❌At Present, left forearms are horizontal. There's a much longer explanation but that suffices. ❌Left-hand fingers wrap around the small of the stock (long time tradition).

This photo was sent to me of this Captain of the @sacramentomarines holding a badly folded American flag. Why is red showing? The answer is "it was folded incorrectly", but why did this happen? Mist likely the Capt worked with the children in the next photo to raise and possibly lower the flags. That next photo shows what is possibly him guiding the folding.

Notice how the bottom edge was brought to the top edge. That's where the red comes from that we see.

Now why on earth would the usafrotc account block

Now why on earth would the usafrotc account block my account on Instagram? Because they constantly post "positive" photos cheering on some of the worst color guard performances, that's why. I hey sent links to posts and this one came up as "unavailable". That means the account blocked me. They don't like facts or truth, they want everyone to live them and for a big group hug all warm and snuggley while a rainbow appears overhead and unicorns prance about.

❌State flags are not authorized in joint colors formations. ❌Colors are NEVER pushed forward at Parade Rest. ❌That's not the USAF flag, that's the USAF emblem made into a flag that military cannot carry. It was mare REALLY BADLY too as you can see by it bunching at the bottom. Great way to waste funds. That's a fraud, waste, and abuse investigation right there.

LSU, this is atrocious.

⭐⭐⭐The Diamond Formation for colors looks good, I've taught it many times, but only as a unique way to present the colors, not as a formation for traveling a greater distance. Using it outside and while performing Eyes Right was probably not the best decision. It would have been better to be in Line Formation for the Eyes Right. Speaking of Eyes Right, ❌why isn't org bearer's head turned? ❌Why is lead guard at Present? ❌Afsc badges are to be removed along with the ribbon rack. ❌The silver chin strap is to be grounded to the bill. ❌Leas guard's left hand needs to be lower on the hand guard at Port. ❌NO arm swing.

@usnavyeuropeafrica colors presentation in Poland. The addition of the Polish flag is just fine. It works well in this situation. ❌Wrong staffs. Two different finials, ❌eagle for the US, ⭐ball of the Polish flag, and a missing finial for the USN. ❌You should have cut off that big white manufacturing label that's on the USN. ℹ️White slings would have been more appropriate. ❌The team should be wearing web belts (shown in the MCO). ℹ️Leggings would be appropriate, although I have not found uniform guidance for Navy colors.

The static display is a different story. ❌Flag spreaders are not authorized. ❌The NATO flag should be to the left of the US. That is an organizational flag and is subordinate to national colors. ℹ️Having the Polish flag on the right is fine since this ceremony is on polish soil (that does not apply to color guards). USN is the last.

So, University of South Alabama AFROTC @det014gamblers - what's the thought process here? Guards are doing OK, there are several areas to tighten up but the color bearers, man, that's just display of massive ignorance of applicable standards.

❌The US is too large for the staff. Actually, it's too large to carry. There are only two sizes of flag the USAF carries. That's probably not one. ❌Staff should have a slight angle forward. ❌Left hand belong at the side. ❌You must carry the USAF departmental color, you can add the state. ❌You stand and march at Close Interval only.

👉If you are going to follow AF ceremonial standards, staffs are vertical and you stand at Close Interval but march shoulder-to-shoulder.

When you volunteer or are assigned to the color guard, the FIRST thing each team member should do is read AFPAM 34-1203 and AFI 34-1201 (if you read AFI 90-1201, the replacement and abomination before the Lord God, it will confuse you). After you read, you train from the written standard, not just from a senior cadet who "knows everything". Then you practice, practice, practice.

⭐The only thing correct here is the flagstaff type. You literally have everything else wrong. ❌Apparently, the goal of the day was to carry the flagstaff as low as possible if you are short. Is this really honoring veterans on our day?

❌You bought outside flags and attached them to staffs which is not authorized. Those flags have a header band and grommets. They are for attaching to a halyard, never a color guard. ❌Hands. ❌Shoulder-to-shoulder. ONE cadet has her hands correct (you're following Army standards, unfortunately). ❌You didn't even try to adjust the harnesses. ❌That's not the USAF flag, that's the emblem.

Fail.
