The DrillMaster’s Job

Not too long ago I was encouraged to find a JROTC team, take them from their current state and bring them to state, regional, and national competitions and win at all three levels. But the last sentence was an insulting, “Or you could write another book.”

Behind the Scenes

I’ve had winning teams in multiple states for multiple years. I just don’t widely broadcast it, nor did I stay with the teams longer than a few years. Most of my work is behind the scenes in hundreds of cases. My public video critiques are in great number at my YouTube channel and, what is just as important, my private video critiques are just as many. No one but the team members or soloist will see those videos for various reasons.

I have enjoyed everything I’ve been able to do so far, and I now find that my job is laying groundwork for teams, soloists, and especially coaches that encompasses everything they need to know.

The “Gaps”

I’ve developed a great deal of information over the years, and you can read and watch much of it for free right here and I’m developing much more. I doubt I’ll ever be finished because there’s always a gap.

A few years ago, I was ridiculed for publishing a series of books called “Filing in the Gaps”. That ridicule came in the form of “we provide information with the gaps filled in“. No, you don’t, because someone will always have a question. That question is a gap in knowledge. My books, articles, social media posts, and videos fill in those gaps because I’m constantly creating more.

The title of the books, my hundreds of articles gathered into book form, didn’t seem to quite fit, so I combined the books under a new title and that has worked well. However, the “gaps” will always be there.

There are no “secrets” as some have asserted, but they can give them to you, for a fee. You can “learn the secrets” of how to win a drill competition. These “secrets” are merely gaps in knowledge, things people don’t know. Yet. That’s it. All it takes is for those asking questions to read. Knowledge is key.

Articles, Books, Social Media, Videos, and

My work is tireless, and I enjoy every minute. There are days when I am absolutely exhausted by the sheer amount of creativity that has gone into research, study, creating, and writing. My online training is still in the works because It was never just right. I have been recently blessed to make a good friend who is part of a professional group that creates online training and needs the ability to work and create resume fodder. It’s going to be amazing.

My email and social media messages and comments are filled with questions that I answer. Many of those answers turn into articles at my website. I have hundreds of thousands of visits to my website and social media platforms every month by people who are looking to fill their gaps of knowledge. I’m here to help – either publicly or in private.

An Analogy

The Amazon river runs for thousands of miles. At some points it runs through areas of jungle that are almost untouched and have been barely explored. Because of the porous limestone in these areas, the river water leaks through the stone and travels deep into the earth and forms underground pools almost a mile below the surface. For thousands of years, small, blind transparent fish have lived in these pools. These fish have never seen the sun or surface and have never been seen en mass by the human eye. These fish care more about opinions than I do.
