Remembering the 592 Special Operations Maintenance Squadron. Because of their limited training, the Hurlburt Field (FL) BHG apparently ❌only knows how to present the colors at Port, even in an aircraft hangar. ❌Tuck your gloves. ❌Your chin is just below your lo lips. That's where the *chin* straps go, not at your throat. ❌US bearer, your carrying fairly high and ❌your left forearm should be 4" from your torso with your wrist and hand following that same straight line, not curved back to the staff. Still, ⭐⭐⭐ for the team.

@rtcgreatlakes - that's not how the M1 Garand is charged. Right hand grasps the small of the stock and the heel of the left thumb is placed on the charging handle with fingers and thumb cupped.

What you see here is only for the M1903, where the handle pulls the bolt out of the chamber.

When we are overseas and marching I'm a parade to represent not only our specific service but the USA, it would be really nice to ❌get the flags in the correct order, ❌have a full color guard with two rifle guards, ❌at least pay some attention to harness socket height, and not have ❌a guidon bearer who isn't goin' fishin' at the end of the street.

It's time, @uscg_academy - for the staffs and fini

It's time, @uscg_academy - for the staffs and finials to be changed to be within standards. ❌Brown staffs are not authorized and the ❌battle-ax finial is not authorized for the other service colors besides the USN.

The @uscoastguardbootcamp color guard recently changed to the correct light ash wood guidon staffs with the flat, silver spade. They did it because as soon as you pick up the Army departmental color, those standards apply. DoD Instruction 5410.19 Vol 4, AR 840-10, and MCO 5060.20.

❌All harness sockets must be under the web belts. ❌All harness sockets must be at the same level as the national bearer's or minimally lower. See MCO 5060.20.

❌All staffs must be angled slightly forward. TC 3-21.5. Note, the Joint Armed Forces Color Guard in DC doesn't angle staffs forward because all the service honor guards there keep the staffs vertical. Outside of DC, staffs are angled.

⭐Colors in correct order. ⭐Correct dimensions for colors. ⭐Correct length for the staffs. ⭐Fringe on the national is correct.

@usairforceacadamy cadets armed with the academy sword (sabers are curved). ⭐⭐The cadet on the left at Carry is holding the hilt as she should be, excellent job. ❌The one at Present should have the base of the hilt at chin level. ❌If you are receiving the report, you should be facing forward like the other two cadets, and saluting in that direction. The one reporting should also be facing forward. We don't execute little facing movements to accomplish reporting.

E-8. Present Saber (Sword) may be executed from the carry when serving in the capacity of COT or serving
in a command that is not part of a larger unit. 👉On the preparatory command of Present, the saber (sword) is
brought to a position (at the rate, of two counts) ⭐approximately 4 inches from the nose⭐ so that the tip of the
saber (sword) is 6 inches from the vertical (see figure E-5, item 1 on page E-6). From TC 3-21.5, what the AF uses for information not listed in the AFPAM. The 1985 edition showed the proper technique.

To clarify, the grip of the sword is 4" from the nose. MCO 5060.20 shows the technique.

❌Cadets armed with swords, stop holding the scabbard. We don't do that in the US. Except when escorting VIPs like the cadets on the left of the photo. The rest of you, cup your hand as when at Attention. ❓Is that a 8' guidon staff (at Present)? It must be 8' only, it looks longer. ℹ️Civilians don't return salutes by placing their hand over their heart. That position is for the Star-Spangled Banner, Taps, and when the colors pass or the individual passes the colors. ℹ️Military veterans can render the hand salute in civvies, but not Marines.

I don't know the school, sent first thing this morning.

ℹ️DoD Instruction 5410.19 Vol 4 states a single service can carry other service departmental colors.

⚠️Only departmental colors are authorized for joint colors. However, cadets can carry their JROTC organizational/institutional color. Colors cannot be mixed. State and territory colors are not authorized. 👉This team is carrying departmental colors.

ℹ️Only light ash wood guidon staffs with the flat, silver spade are authorized. ⚠️No service carries or displays staffs with the gold-colored spade. I cannot tell if that is silver or not.

❌All departmental colors MUST HAVE FRINGE.

❌3x5 colors are not authorized in the US military. I understand that they are the easiest to obtain, that's because that is the civilian size. ❌For joint colors formations, the colors must be 4'4"x5'6" mounted on 9'6" staffs.

❌The national color CANNOT be lower than any other. We look at the harness sockets and adjust them accordingly. ❌Color guards formed under the guidance of TC 3-21.5, MCO 5060.20, or AFPAM 34-1203, must march and stand at Close Interval ONLY. Shoulder-to-shoulder is not authorized.

⭐Guards at the outboard shoulder. ⭐Bearers holding the staffs correctly.

They aren't authorized for the military. ❌If ever silks must overlap, the flag to the viewer's left is in front. ❌The gold-colored spade isn't authorized either. ❌The Coastie flag is always last because they are DHS, not DoD. ❌Some of the flags are twisted around the staffs, not an appropriate look.

❌Colors are never pushed forward at Parade Rest, that's only a guidon technique. Colors remain vertical at Order at all times unless presenting in a very low clearance area.

This is explained and shown in AFPAM 34-1203. Please see the colors section. This goes for unit organizational colors as well as colors in the color guard.

These unit colors, correctly placed to the right of the guidon bearers, are an extension of the color guard. Instead of the unit colors being placed behind the color guard proper in multiple ranks for a massed colors formation, they are placed with the unit commander.

Let's talk about technique in this photo of the @uscoastguardbootcamp color guard.

ℹ️The Marine Corps Order tells the organizational bearer to twist the staff clockwise 90 degrees. That doesn't happen in a joint situation. You keep the spade flat as per Army standards since you are carrying the Army color.

❌Having battle streamers on the CG color and none on the rest is inappropriate. All colors have them or none. None is the less expensive option.

I've been using this technique to go to Right Shoulder (Carry) since I was 5, or something like that.

I only recommend this type of double harness with this metal socket. It's the only socket with a little lip at the top so that you can lift it easily as I'm doing innthe image at the right. This enables you to bring the staff ferrule into and through the bottom hole of the socket as designed.

First two - ❌when service departmental colors are carried, no other color is authorized. No state colors and no organizational/institutional colors. ❌Joint service order is Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard. See AR 840-10 for more.

Last two - ❌The AJROTC institutional color is required to be carried, it cannot be replaced by the state flag. ❌The US is being carried lower. Harness sockets must be at the same level. ❌The eagle finial is not authorized, it must be the flat, silver spade.
