With one guard for #CasketWatch and nothing (flowe

With one guard for #CasketWatch and nothing (flowers, etc) in the way at the head, there is NO reason to stand in front of the casket, especially at the (almost) center. The look here can be seen one of two ways:

1. A (sloppily) centered guard who is ceremonially guarding.

2. A guard who is blocking the view.

I see number 2 and I don't appreciate it, especially with someone at the podium.

The minimum for Casket Watch is one guard. The mx is two. The FIRST position for the guards is at the head and foot next to the casket. If items are there, then the guards post in front of those items. If there is too much at each end, then the guards post in front of the ends of the casket.

This should be known standard protocol.

Sent in with a question. Is that sword salute technique correct? No, it's not! However, this could be an #exhibitiondrill phase and this type of technique is just fine then.

When I judged the @pershingrifles competition for their national convention I saw many procedural and technique errors that awareness and education will fix.

MCAS Miramar Dental's flag display. Rather than but the appropriate sized flags and staffs, you cun just partially furl the flags and use the cords and tassels to tie off each flag.

Problem solved.

No need to mention that the national has fringe, the flags are out of order, mounted are on the wrong staffs, topped with the wrong finials, and in the wrong stands.

I'm SO tired of those incredibly ignorant comments about D&C not mattering. I just received one the other day on YouTube saying how ridiculous it is for the Navy Ceremonial Guard to have a drill team. It's a waste of time, yada, yada, yada.

You have no idea what D&C does. You have no idea how positive an effect it can have on every aspect of life for any individual.

I have worked with JROTC teams from every service

I have worked with JROTC teams from every service all over the country. I've been doing it for years in-person and through video. Many, many teams that walk away with trophies are the ones that have taken advice from me. My goal is not having anyone receive a trophy, my goal is education. However, if that results in a high placement, then I'm happy for the team.

My suggestions and feedback are only part of the formula. The other part, the larger part is the hard work put in by the cadets. That's what really matters because the hard work comes in after I've critiqued and sometimes those critiques point out massive problems. To recover from that kind of situation is impressive.

When I post this type of video (my second in several years) its to help others understand. Not everyone marches well. When I worked with a local AJROTC we had one cadet who forced himself to march on the drill team because he didn't march well and he was going to college to be an Army officer one day. He worked hard to learn how to march fairly well. He was an asset to the team. He would march minimally in his coming college years and then very rarely, if at all, while Active Duty.

For the enlisted, marching is a bit more of a requirement. You SHOULD be able to perform the very basic tasks such as marching front and center for a promotion/award. You need to able to do this and this Marine should have practiced. He should have sought help from his squad leader at a minimum.

I worked with Belgian and Dutch WWII reenactment groups at several monuments throughout the area while I was on the Spangdahlem Air Base Honor Guard. This is a French group in the town of Carentan (if it doesn't sound familiar, look it up, it's fascinating). The groups spare no expense to ensure every detail is as close to the original look as possible for their vehicles, equipment, and uniformsa.

The photos were sent in for critique. ❌The colors harness sockets need to be at the same level. ❌The sockets are worn below the waist with the web belt over the harness. ❌Left hands on the staff at the socket, no higher unless there is strong wind. Then, slide the left up the staff to Under and touching the right. ❌Heels must be together and toes pointing out 22.5 degrees in each direction. ❌When flagstaffs are at Carry, the guards are at Right Shoulder (what you see here is a French version of D&C if I'm not mistaken). ❌Both flags should be 3'x4' (here, the US is 3x5). ❌Right rifle guard is too close. ❌When at Order, fingers are extended and joined at the SIDE of the rifle.

Marine Barracks Washington storage method at the top and Continental Color Guard method below. Which method of flag storage is better? That all depends. It depends on how long the flags will be stored, their weight (embroidered or not), and the material they're made from (nylon, polyester - the most common materials, or rayon - a more expensive, silk-like polyester).

Storing the staff horizontal is perfect. Allowing the silk (the name for the flag material) to hang for extended periods of time, the material will stretch. Draping the material once or twice over the staff is going to allow the material to rest and not stretch.

Which is better in the long run? Both organizations have flags going in and out just about hourly each day. The Continental Color Guard's @usarmy_ccg method is better. The @marinebarrackswashington method works well for daily storage but the flags still can stretch a bit.

From @professorflagg - This photo is from 1917 ... it's the American Red Cross carrying thier flag as a fundraiser. People would toss their change into the flag along the parade route. It is the very reason the Flag Code prohibits carrying the flag horizontally.
