Don't know where the color guard is from. This is

Don't know where the color guard is from. This is not good. However, let's see some things that are correct before getting into whats needs to be corrected.

⭐Flags in proper order. ⭐Spacing is consistent.

Now:
❌Fringe on the national. ❌National carried lower. ❌Left hands on the staffs. ❌Bearers elbows flared. ❌No slings on the rifles. ❌Guards have both hands flared at Present. Where does this silly left hand flare come from? I've seen it on rifles and fire axes.

It's always a great achievement to get a well-timed photo. You know what would make this photo even better? Following standards.

❌The team is required to march and stand at Close Interval only. ❌Left hands do not belong on the staff at the socket, but at your sides. If there is strong wind, the left hand is brought to the staff at the socket and then slid up to under and touching the right. A subdued "Bearers Ready, Two" is the command to do that. ❌Mirrored anything by the guards is not authorized.

I know that a vast majority of people do not know

I know that a vast majority of people do not know that #PresentArmsAtOrder is a proper technique, but it is. I what situation is it appropriate? Here, the members of the Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard go through the short ceremony of rendering honors to the flag while the guards properly pass on the flagstaffs to the color bearers.

The colors harness would be inappropriate for the guards to wear and the same goes for the bearers. This ceremony is the only way to appropriately create the color guard. After this the guards mounted their rides and drew their swords.

A couple of notes. Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard color guards are not authorized to carry the state flag. You should be carrying either the USN departmental or NJROTC organizational. However, some school officials request that the state flag be carried at school functions and that's understandable.

That being said. All flags that are carried by these services and cadet organizations must have fringe except for the national.

Staffs should have the battle-ax finial and all metal then has to be gold-colored. Staffs with the spade and silver-colored metal are for joint work with the other services except the Coast Guard.

The smallest class I've ever taught graduated today as Certified US Ceremonial Guardsmen. The planning began with 20 a couple of months ago and life happened. That's OK, we pushed through. What's interesting is this is a first for class size and it was a first as all six performed all three ceremonial elements one right after the other. That's tough to do! You spend the week learning them, but then you can concentrate on just one for the course final, the mock full honors funeral. They did it with a few minor mistakes. Well done, gentleman!

This Present at Order. Its am alternative to #AnglePort over the left shoulder, but a bit parochial. To use this command, the team would be instructed to use this method and not raise the staff to #PortForColors or Right Shoulder, which would be the standard method if you had enough ceiling height. Enter at Trail, go to Order, Present, Order, and depart at Trail.

It's quite annoying that TC 3-21.5 has the image on one page and the explanation on another. That doesn't makes sense and it leads to some not completely reading/seeing the standard.

For instance, Parade Rest for the color guard. On page 15-15, we have the text that says staffs are kept vertical at Parade Rest. However, the image, the unbelievably bad drawing of a color guard at Parade Rest, is on the next page. This image seems to show staffs angled forward with right forearms horizontal pushing the staffs out. The drawing is bad, let's get that out of the way. But most people go right to the image and don't read the description. That's where you run into trouble.

The flagstaff manual comes from the guidon manual, but the flagstaff does not use every position of the guidon because flag protocol is a bit different. That means on the command "Parade" of Parade Rest, the right hand slides up the staff so that the forearm is vertical for both staffs, but on "Rest", only the guidon is pushed forward.

Honestly, I prefer keeping the right hand at the position of Order, arm extended straight down, for the flagstaff Parade Rest. It makes more sense.

This is what happens when you don't do your own reading, which is required of the NCO carrying the American flag, and rely on word-of-mouth training.

❌The whole team is in reverse order.

❌❌Flagstaffs are NEVER pushed forward at Parade Rest. Never. Especially the American flag. This position is only a guidon position for parade rest and a Salute position at the position of Order. Yes, a Salute position.

👉This is Present Arms AT Order, not FROM Order. That is perfectly acceptable when needed. This is not that time.

Very low ceilings require a somewhat odd technique, but the team is able to get the job done.

#AnglePort has the staff pointing straight forward (over the right shoulder of whoever is in front of you) at approximately 45 degrees from vertical. That position is used for getting through a low clearance area like a doorway and then you go to #PortForColors or Right Shoulder. Using Angle Port over the left shoulder, an approximate 45-degree angle to the left from center, is for a continuously low clearance area where you cannot raise the staff any higher.

LCDR in the middle of PresentDraw - double the technique in a single move. That's not Draw and not Present either. I get that sword use is not all that common for anyone in the Fleet, I don't expect the highest level of excellence that comes out of the @usnceremonialguard or @marinebarrackswashington, but I do expect training, practice, and at least one rehearsal using proper technique. Honestly, she should have gone to a CPO and asked for guidance and a knowledgeable PO should have been assigned to her and stuck to her like glue ensuring she knew the ropes.

It's not like there aren't any Sailors in the Fleet that did two years on the Guard in DC. Whats interesting is that those highly-trained me and women move out to the Fleet, volunteer at their new command for colors or other ceremonial duty, start to perform the requirements properly, and are immediately shot down with "That's not the way we do it here." Don't believe me? I have the private messages that bear that out from at least a dozen Sailors. Some were so frustrated, they got out.

I was supposed to get to this critique of the @ltmurph_seacadets a few days ago. So, I have a couple of minutes before I get ready to teach.

⭐The team looks very sharp! ❌Flagstaffs must be the same length. The MCO requires 9'6" staffs with 4'4"x5'6" flags. Honestly, I think cadets should be authorized the 8' staffs and 3'x4' flags as an option. ❌US bearer's socket is lower. ⭐No fringe on national and fringe on org. ❌Guards slid their hands up the rifles for Parade Rest. Leave them in place as when at Attention. ❌US bearer not using Strong Grip. ❌Left rifle guard not fully extending right arm downward at Attention. ❌Feet should be 12" apart at Parade Rest. ❌Right rifle guard's belt needs to be tighter. ❌Org bearer's heels not together.
