The designer of the Base Honor Guard program is a friend of mine. I've known him for many, many years (early 1990s). One of the tenants of the program (implemented in the late 1990s) has always been that the USAF HG and all BHGs are one team. We do very similar things, just at different locations. Plus, work in DC is more intense for some ceremonies. However, we were all USAF Honor Guard members.

But, that's not how it's been, has it? The elitist mentality of some comes out again and again showing utter disregard and disrespect for those at the base level. Unprofessionalism, elitism, arrogance, and sarcasm have been the bedrock attitude for a few who give the ceremonial uniform a bad name.

This comment is the end of a long, time-wasting thread. I try to give the benefit of the doubt, but time and again I'm shown that it doesn't matter what I write or say. It always comes down to personal insults from others. Truly disappointing.

Necessarily one of the most knowledgeable members

Necessarily one of the most knowledgeable members of any ceremony is the guidon bearer. Here, a Ceremonial Guardsman of the @usnceremonialguard stands with the Commander of Troops (CoT) as he gives commands for a recent retirement ceremony at the Navy Yard. As the CoT gives commands, the guidon Bearer is right there to either prompt him for the next command or to quietly say "freeze!" if the CoT gives an incorrect command. Teamwork.

My practice flags need to be washed every few courses I teach. This was from last year. Flags should be at least dry cleaned every few years if in a static display and possibly more often if used on a color guard.

Kneeling Queen Anne Salute. The @cgaprecisiondrillteam posted this and a couple other photos of tea members. A performance is all about communication, whether you believe that or not, and communication is better when you present yourself (and your teammates) as best as possible.

See how these two have an angle to their lead leg, trail leg thigh, and are both leaning forward at the waist? If they squared off, like the @usafdrillteam members do, they would look that much better. The left arm is fine with the forearm horizontal and centered top-to-bottom on the torso or if the whole arm is horizontal at shoulder level. Either one looks good, it's a matter of preference.

When multiple flags are carried on a color guard, staff sockets must be aligned as close as possible to the same level without resorting to #HarnessSocketCrotchSyndrome as shown here. Also, at Carry, staffs must be vertical for Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard teams while Army, Air Force, and Space Force teams must have a slight angle forward (you decide the angle, I suggest about 6" from your nose.

The gold-colored cord and tassels is not authorized on any military flag.

Belts must be tight and not loose as seen here.

Two hands on the staff is only for high wind situations. However, the left hand is on the staff under and touching the right.

Teams march and stand at Close Interval.

I commented on this video when it was first posted in 2007. The male cadet across from the female who got hit in the face is COMPLETELY at fault. I let him know. His reply was inappropriate and disrespectful. I reminded him who he was writing to (I was RETIRED from Active Duty at the time for 2 years). He deleted his comment.

‼️NEVER take your concentration off your rifle while it's in your hands. Only when your rifle leaves your hands do you switch your concentration to the incoming rifle.

❌No flag can be larger than the US in a color guard or display. You have a 3x4 US and a 3x5 CA. Not good. The CA can be altered or you can order a 3x4 version, but you must specifically ask for a 3x4 since only the military uses that size. ❌The CA does not have fringe. All USAF flags must have fringe. ❌Brlts on the males are too low and the female's belt is just a bit low. The crummy McPeak three-button blouse requires the belt to rest between the bottom two buttons. ❌Left rifle guard, fingers extended and joined at the SIDE of the rifle and ❌don't tuck your left thumb into your fingers. ❌The harness sockets do not have to be that low. #HarnessSocketCrotchSyndrome ❓I don't keep up with uniform info, but I think the Wing and Star Device is not authorized on this cover. It's only for the ceremonial cap. Please double check that. ❌The AF departmental or AFJROTC flag is required. However, some teams cannot field more than four cadets for the team and school principals like state flags. ⭐Spacing. ⭐Correct staffs.

Gen. Milley retired and Gen. Brown stepped in as Chair JCS. This is a photo of the reviewing stand.

Seating: for this ceremony, the pecking order went from the middle (President), to his left (VP), to his right (SECDEF), and on from there. Milley and Brown changed places after the formalities.

Flags: The DOD is rather muddled on this one. They put the guest of honor first and then the personal colors in order. This isn't a huge issue, it does make sense with posted or even carried PCs.

❌The VP's colors should NOT have been there as she did not participate in the ceremony. It looks like it may have been thrown in on the end as an after thought. Not good.

❌VP returned Milley's hand salute. Just stop it. You have no affiliation to the military. See #PresidentialReturnSalute

I don't know what school this is. AJROTC color guard. If some of the extremely few people who scream the loudest had their way, I would be telling these cadets what a wonderful job they are doing here and give each one a trophy.

Is that positive to just gush over cadets shoeing up but doing something wrong? Does it help in any way? No, and no. Anything other than constructive criticism would be a lie, unhelpful, and possibly detrimental in the future. Detrimental? Let's say one cadet goes ROTC or even enlists. Now, he/she has poor training that could lead to an extremely embarrassing situation for a ceremony (for instance).

What affect does a photo like this have when published without an appropriate critique? Others see it and some may assume the techniques and positions are authorized and can be copied. Hardly anyone reads anymore, many rely on photos.

What might be worse is bad training from some who have no military experience or who have military experience with very a limited D&C background and yet gladly say "I consider myself a drill guy".

All of these instances combined or taken on their own are a recipe for disaster.
