Hi, I was wondering if these bayonets would work fine on my Daisy 1903 without a bayonet lug if I just taped the handle to the barrel. Also you should come out with a weight to put in the stock of the rifle (Daisies have a slot underneath the but plate) to counterbalance the weight of the bayonet so that the balance point doesn't change.
Thanks for the question! The slot in the butt of the rifle was originally for the cleaning kit. To keep the same weight for the Daisy and Glendale DrillAmerica 1903s, those hollow pieces needed to stay, but have no other use, that is why there isn't a hinged flap on either of the replica butt plates.
As far as using a bayonet without attaching it to a bayonet lug on the upper band, yes, it is possible by using strapping tape (with the fibers in it) to make a semi-solid connection. But here is a word of caution, this method (not attaching the bayonet to an upper band with a lug) can potentially be quite dangerous. I do not recommend doing this at all.
For the weight and balance point issue, the whole idea behind bladed drill is getting used to the new feel: length, weight and balance. If you choose to weight a rifle with about 14 oz (the weight of a DrillMaster Bayonet), by all means do so!
