nATIONAL cONVENTIONAttention all first responder honor guard units! (And it’s not just for first responders!) My friends and honor guard colleagues at Elmhurst (IL) Training Academy in conjunction with Clark County Nevada Fire Department will again host the annual national convention in Las Vegas, NV April 21-24 2-13. The Orleans Hotel & Resort is the HQ for eating, sleeping and some fun while the training annex for Clark County, which is right across the street, is the location for the training sessions. The first convention, HonCon12, was a great success with a couple dozen first responders attending and 2013 is headed toward bigger and better.

Training sessions will include Organizing Tragedy* and Elmhursts very own, Honor Guard 101. I plan on being there and offering my books and other materials.

Come and see some familiar faces, meet new people and network with honor guard members across the nation. Click here for complete details and to register.

*We who have worked on military honor guards may not realize that civilian first responders, who work for their state governments, don’t have the casualty assistance system that we in the military have. First responders actually double- and triple-up on their duties, especially for a line of duty death (LODD).
